Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is reportedly planning to resign amid the controversy he is involved in with regards to his leaked racist emails from a decade ago.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Gruden has informed his staff on the Raiders his plan to step down.

The rumored resignation of Jon Gruden came in the wake of more misogynistic, homophobic and racist comments discovered in his leaked emails from years ago.

To recall, Gruden came under fire recently after his email to then Washington Redskins exec Bruce Allen in 2011 surfaced. In the said message, the Raiders coach–who was working as a football analyst for ESPN at the time–described NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith with racist remarks.

Gruden called Smith as someone with “lips the size of michellin tires.” For those not familiar with it, it is an old racist stereotype of Black people.

Then on Monday, more leaked emails from Gruden surfaced–and it gets worse for the Raiders tactician. In the newly discovered messages, the veteran coach reportedly called NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a “faggot” and a “clueless anti football pussy.” He also condemned the drafting of “queers” in the league, referencing the then St. Louis Rams selecting Michael Sam in 2014.

Derek Carr and the Raiders have openly expressed their support for Gruden following the revelation of his email about Smith. However, with the new discoveries, it remains to be seen how the team and players will react.

Moreover, given the impact of the issue, resignation might really be Gruden's only choice.
