The Oakland Raiders are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive on the road versus the Denver Broncos in the 2019 NFL season finale. Unfortunately, it appears they will be without running back Josh Jacobs.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Jacobs will not play injuries Week 17 due to a shoulder injury.

Source: Raiders RB Josh Jacobs, who is dealing with a skin infection and a shoulder injury, is not expected to play on Sunday. In their improbable race to qualify for the playoffs, sounds like Jacobs is unlikely to join them.

Jacobs has reportedly been dealing with the shoulder issue since Week 7 during the loss to the Green Bay Packers. As a result, he has missed two of the last three games and seems set to miss his third.

Head coach Jon Gruden also revealed that Jacobs had underwent a procedure to deal with a skin infection on his leg. Fortunately, it is not deemed to be too severe and Gruden made it clear that his status would be predicated on how his shoulder felt and not the infection. Regardless, the report indicates that Oakland will opt to take a cautious approach by sitting him out of the season finale.

If Jacobs is unable to play, he will still finish the regular season as the frontrunner for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after rushing for 1,150 yards and seven touchdowns on 242 carries. Meanwhile, the Raiders will need the stars to align if they hope to somehow make the postseason and it starts with a win against the Broncos.
