The Oakland Raiders were targeting Alabama running back Josh Jacobs with one of their three first-round picks and were quite happy when he fell into their laps. They ended up getting their guy, and Jacobs has a good shot at becoming the team's featured back as a rookie.

During a recent hit on NFL Network, M.J. Acosta said that the Raiders are happy with Jacobs' development so far.

“There are a lot of people in that building in Alameda that are very excited about Josh Jacobs, and rightfully so,” Acosta declared.

“When I spoke with him just a few weeks ago, just before minicamp started after OTAs, he told me he was actually pleasantly surprised with how quickly he was able to pick up on this playbook. That integration into this offense for him, he says, has been much better than he anticipated. Certainly still a challenge, of course, going from the collegiate level to the pros, but he says he's getting along just fine,” Acosta continued.

It's good to know that Jacobs isn't having too much trouble learning Jon Gruden's system. Gruden can be a tough coach, and he isn't going to hand Jacobs anything just because he was an early pick.

That being said, Jacobs won't have too much competition. Marshawn Lynch is no longer with the team, and Oakland doesn't have too many other appealing options. The starting job is Jacobs' to lose, and it looks like he's seizing the moment already. On only 120 carries last year, Jacobs ran for 640 yards and 11 touchdowns.
