Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden has been in hot water across the last few days after a leaked email revealed he made a racial comment towards an NFLPA member in 2011 during the lockout. However, it doesn’t seem like the Raiders are losing respect for Gruden.

Following their 20-9 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, running back Josh Jacobs spoke on the possibility of Gruden losing the locker room after the incident. Via ESPN:

“I don’t think so,” Jacobs said. “All the guys, we all kind of talked about how we felt about it and how [Gruden] treats the players. He’s a players’ coach. So, everybody was kind of like … just overanalyzing it. I don’t think it’s going to affect it, because our guys, we’re led by each other.

The Raiders’ RB also said that even though the coaches make the calls, at the end of the day, it’s up to the players to get it done:

“The coaches, yeah, they call the plays and everything; but at the end of the day, we are led by each other. So, I don’t think it affected guys too much.”

Quarterback Derek Carr also showed huge support for Gruden and insisted the Raiders are fully behind their coach:

“Us as a team, we’re like, ‘Yeah, Coach, it was 10 years ago. We love you, man. We got your back,'” Carr said.

People make mistakes and that’s evidently what Gruden did. He’s made it clear that he doesn’t have a racist bone in his body and although it might be hard to believe right now, 10 years is a long time. Nonetheless, he said the wrong thing and could still face punishment for it. Having the Raiders’ support though will certainly help as they look to get back in the win column after two consecutive losses.
