Oakland Raiders running back Josh Jacobs has been ruled out for his team's Week 16 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers due to a shoulder injury, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Jacobs has been dealing with the shoulder issue for a good portion of the season.

The injury has not stopped Jacobs from having a terrific rookie campaign, as he has rushed for 1,150 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

Most recently, Jacobs carried the ball 24 times for 89 yards in a 20-16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 21-year-old has put forth five 100-yard performances this year, hitting the 120-yard plateau three times. His season-high came in Week 7 when he racked up 124 yards in a loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Jacobs, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by the Raiders in the first round (24th pick overall) of the NFL Draft back in April.

Oakland's decision to draft Jacobs in the first round was puzzling to some, as running backs generally don't have first-round value (except in extreme cases), particularly when they weren't all that productive on the NCAA level.

Jacobs totaled just 640 yards on the ground during his final season at Alabama, and in three collegiate campaigns, he accumulated 1,491 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns in total. Not exactly eye-popping numbers.

However, the Tulsa, Ok native has proven his doubters wrong early on, as not only has he been one of the best rookies in the league, but he has been one of the game's best halfbacks, period, in 2019.

The Raiders are just 6-8 on the year and have been eliminated from playoff contention.
