Josh Jacobs was selected by the Oakland Raiders with the No. 24 overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. It was a selection that many saw coming, especially after the news broke that Marshawn Lynch would be retiring. Now, the Raiders have their running back of the present and the future.

Following his selection, Jacobs made it clear that he knew the Raiders wanted him. Eddie Borsilli shared a quote from Jacobs after being drafted that stated that Jon Gruden had said the Raiders would draft him if he was available.

Jacobs was one of the more interest first round prospects in the entire draft. He did not have a productive career at Alabama, but the raw talent as a dual-threat back that he possesses intrigued quite a few teams.

Last season with the Crimson Tide, Jacobs ended up carrying the football 120 times for 640 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also caught 20 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns. Oakland will need him to step up in both aspects of the game.

Gruden and company are rebuilding their franchise after trading both Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper last season. They were able to get Clelin Ferrell, Jacobs, and Jonathan Abram in the first round last night. All three players are going to be able to come in and play immediately.

Oakland may have reached on Ferrell at No. 4, but Jacobs at No. 24 is an excellent pick and fills a major need.

Expect to see Jacobs enter the season as the Raiders' starter in the backfield. Jalen Richard will be an excellent change of pace back, but Jacobs was drafted in the first round for a reason and will be asked to handle a big workload as a rookie.
