Following weeks of speculation, the Oakland Raiders finally found a resolution to their situation involving star defensive end Khalil Mack with a trade to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a plethora of draft picks, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

There had been chatter over the last several days that the Raiders were considering moving the Pro Bowl defensive end with the asking price starting with a pair of first-round selections. The New York Jets and Green Bay Packers had been rumored to have interest in acquiring Mack while several other teams were also believed to have reached out to the Raiders to get a deal done ahead of the start of the 2018 campaign.

Throughout the last several months, there has been a lack of any chatter from the Raiders about working out a deal with the 27-year-old. This had seen little public concern about the situation expressed from head coach Jon Gruden that only created the notion that Mack's time in Oakland was in jeopardy. The recent record-breaking six-year, $135 million deal that the Los Angeles Rams had signed with star defensive tackle Aaron Donald was hoped to get the Raiders to intensify their contract talk. Instead, this allowed for the Bears to swoop in to land the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

In his first four years in the league, Mack has established himself as one of the top defensive players in the league. He is a premier pass rusher. He is coming off yet another impressive campaign where he had a team-high 10.5 sacks, which made him the fifth player in team history to record at least 10 sacks in three different seasons. His 40.5 sacks through his first four years are the third-most by a player over that stretch in Raiders’ history and fifth-most all-time. Mack will step in as the leading factor on the defensive line as their top pass rusher.
