The Las Vegas Raiders will be playing in a new stadium in 2020 and Nevin Lawson will have a new contract as well. According to Ian Rapoport, Las Vegas is giving cornerback Nevin Lawson a contract extension.

Heading into the 2019 season, Lawson was the No. 4 or No. 5 cornerback on the depth chart. But as the season progressed, Lawson began to receive more opportunities on the defense.

After the Raiders traded Gareon Conley to the Houston Texans, Lawson stepped in as the team's nickel cornerback. The Raiders were able to land a third-round pick for Conley—who was a former first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Prior to joining the Raiders in 2019, Lawson spent his first five seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions. Over his five years in Detroit, Lawson totaled 205 tackles, 25 deflections, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

For Lawson, he wasn't active for the Raiders until Week 7 of the regular season. Then, just a few weeks after being made active on the roster, Lawson was promoted to a starting role on the defense.

In 11 games and five starts in 2019, Lawson ended the season with 23 tackles, two tackles for loss, and five deflections. Despite not recording an interception, Lawson flashed his potential as a nickel cornerback in Las Vegas' defense.

The extension for Lawson is going to be worth $3.29 million over one year. Therefore, the Utah State product is going to have one season to prove himself again in front of the fans in Las Vegas.
