The Las Vegas Raiders are signing cornerback Eli Apple, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Apple spent the 2019 campaign with the New Orleans Saints, playing in 15 games and registering 58 tackles, a forced fumble and four passes defended.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by the New York Giants with the 10th overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 14 contests during his rookie season, finishing with 51 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, a couple of fumble recoveries and seven passes defended.

The following year, Apple was limited to just 11 games due to injury, and during the time he was on the field, he totaled 49 tackles, a pair of fumble recoveries and eight passes defended.

Apple then began the 2018 campaign with the Giants, participating in five contests before being traded to the Saints midway through the year.

In 15 games between New York and New Orleans, Apple recorded 75 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and 14 passes defended.

While Apple has not lived up to expectations, he remains a solid depth piece and should bring some help to a Raiders secondary that absolutely needs it.

The Raiders had resided in Oakland since 1995, but will be moving into their new stadium in Las Vegas next season. Their stay in the Bay Area was not exactly successful, as the Raiders made just four playoff appearances, making it to one Super Bowl during the 2002-03 campaign.

Since advancing to that Super Bowl 17 years ago, the Raiders have made just one trip to the postseason.
