The Las Vegas Raiders had plans to use Lynn Bowden Jr. as a running back in his rookie season with the team. Those plans have since faded as Bowden has been traded to the Miami Dolphins, along with a sixth-round pick, for a fourth-round pick, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

In the 2020 NFL Draft, which was five months ago, the Raiders took Bowden in the third round with the No. 80 pick. Coming out of Kentucky, Bowden was utilized in a variety of ways, having played running back and wide receiver.

Also, due to injuries last season, Bowden spent some time at quarterback. Despite his ability to play multiple positions, GM Mike Mayock uttered that the Raiders viewed him as a running back.

But with a somewhat crowded backfield group, Las Vegas apparently had nowhere to insert Bowden in the offense. Aside from Josh Jacobs, the Raiders also boast a backfield unit that features Jalen Richard and Devontae Booker.

It is extremely rare to see a player be traded from a team, especially one that was taken early in the draft, before he ever suited up with them. At the same time, it's even rarer to see a franchise get a draft pick that doesn't equal the one they spent on that player.

As for the Dolphins, they'll be getting a versatile offensive weapon that figures to compete for a role on the team. Seeing that Miami has a shortage at wide receiver, Bowden could find himself playing the position he played for the majority of his collegiate career.
