The Las Vegas Raiders made Henry Ruggs the first wide receiver selected in the 2020 NFL Draft with the No. 12 pick in the first round. Nearly fourth months after adding Ruggs, Raiders owner Mark Davis spoke out on how badly he wanted to draft Ruggs.

“He was,” the Las Vegas Raiders' owner said of Ruggs, via ESPN's Paul Gutierrez, “the only person I wanted in this draft.”

During the pre-draft process, NFL teams will compile a list of players that the team is going to target. While Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock have a say in the players that the team selects, Davis obviously had a say in taking Ruggs in the first round.

When the Raiders were on the clock back in April, the top three consensus wide receivers were still on the board. Besides Ruggs, Las Vegas could have taken either CeeDee Lamb or Jerry Jeudy. Instead, they decided to take the speedy wideout out of Alabama in hopes he could provide a spark to the offense.

Earlier this offseason, Ruggs suffered a scary off-the-field incident that involved him getting stuck between a trailer and a truck while helping a friend move. Despite sustaining a laceration to his leg, the rookie pass-catcher is expected to be one-hundred percent healthy heading into training camp.

Going into the 2020 NFL Draft, it was assumed that the Raiders were going to take one of the top wide receivers. Even though Las Vegas had other options, Davis and the Raiders were fixated on the opportunity to add Ruggs to their offense.
