The Oakland Raiders notably hired first-year NFL general manager Mike Mayock to kick-off the team's offseason. With Mayock teaming up with head coach Jon Gruden ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Raiders entered late April with quite the controversial decision hanging over the franchise.

Prior to the 2019 NFL Draft, the Raiders reportedly sent all of their scouts home while it appeared as though most of those scouts were being let go by the team. However, that wasn't actually the case so says Manock, who has since stated that he only fired three scouts while simply sending all of them home one week before the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville, Tennessee.

“I never fired any of them. I didn’t. I sent them home,” Mayock recently told Sports Illustrated's The MMQB. “Listen to me, I sent them home, and I fired zero of them until the day after the draft. And then I notified a couple guys [that they were fired]. End of story. Nobody follows the story. Nobody cares. Everybody just wanted to report that Mayock sent everybody home.”

The Raiders are currently looking to turn things around in a hurry after trading away wide receiver Amari Cooper and pass rusher Khalil Mack, who were both traded prior to Mayock's arrival. However, the Raiders did encounter what initially appears to be a successful 2019 NFL Draft while previously acquiring All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown via trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Unfortunately for Mayock and company, the Raiders will be forced to matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.
