Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden did Mike Mayock a favor when he hired him as the team's general manager, but that does not mean he is going to take it easy on him.

Mayock says that Gruden is a stickler for punctuality, so much so that he considers you late even if you arrive before the sun rises:

“It’s been kind of a whirlwind couple of months,” Mayock said, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “I’ve known Gruden for a lot of years, but you walk in at 5:30 in the morning and he looks at you, ‘Why are you late? I’ve been here an hour.’ It’s been awesome.”

Gruden was heavily criticized for his decision to hire Mayock, with many accusing the Raiders coach of nepotism.

Mayock has no front office experience and had previously worked with the NFL Network as an NFL Draft expert.

Of course, we do need to give Mayock a chance, as he has had no time to prove himself yet. With the draft coming in two months, we are about to see what the former TV personality is made of.

The Raiders are coming off of a miserable 2018 campaign in which they won just four games. Since last making it to the Super Bowl during the 2002-03 season, Oakland has made it to the playoffs just once and have posted just one winning season.

Gruden is now in his second stint as Raiders head coach. He had previously served as Oakland's coach from 1998 through 2001.
