As the NFL offseason begins to ramp up, one of the talking points between the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders has been where they’ll be playing their Week 3 preseason game. After many back and forth discussions, it seems as if the game will be going north after all, with both teams officially playing in Winnipeg during the third week of August.

According to a report from Jeff Hamilton of The Winnipeg Free Press, the Winnipeg Football Club is in its final stages of completing its plan to host the two NFL teams during Week 3 of the preseason. After plans for Regina and Edmonton to host the game fell through, it seems as if Winnipeg will be able to accommodate both teams in the timeframe that they need.

No official date for the game has been set, but the third week of the preseason is typically held sometime in late August, and the Winnipeg Bombers – the Canadian Football League team located in Winnipeg – won’t be playing at home during that time, so it should work out.

According to Hamilton, representatives from the NFL, Raiders, and Packers were all in Winnipeg last month in an effort to meet with those at IG Field and begin ironing out the logistics of getting an NFL game there. Of course, the spectacle and upkeep of an NFL game are much more demanding than that of anything else, so it’ll certainly be interesting to see how the stadium handles it, but with the NFL looking to broaden its outreach across the world, it makes sense that Canada has gotten an NFL game, albeit a preseason one.

With two of the most well-known NFL franchises set to play there, football fans in Canada should be in for a great time, and although teams usually rest a majority of their starters in the preseason, the third game is when most starters play, so it makes sense for the NFL to want a game like that to be showcased elsewhere.
