The NFL has levied heavy fines against the Las Vegas Raiders and head coach Jon Gruden, for violations of the league's COVID-19 protocols, Charles Robinson of Yahoo! is reporting.

The Raiders will incur a penalty of $500,000 in addition to losing a sixth-round draft pick in next year's NFL draft, while Gruden will personally be forced to pay $150,000 for the way that the positive test for offensive tackle Trent Brown was handled.

Originally diagnosed with Coronavirus in October, Brown subsequently missed over two weeks of Raiders activities before he was cleared to return last Friday prior to the team's game against the Cleveland Browns. Brown however, had to be rushed to a Cleveland hospital prior to kickoff, due to air entering his bloodstream while he was receiving an IV. While the tackle was released from the medical center on Monday and appeared to be recovering, his return to the COVID-19 restriction list, does not appear to be from a new positive test, but is rather an indication that he had never fully recovered from the first.

In appearing to have rushed back the offensive tackle from the restrictive list, the organization has once again been found to be in violation of the league's protocol meant to protect players from infection. In paying the fine, the Raiders will have paid $1.2 million to the league for violations of the Covid protocols. These incidents include $350k for a sideline mask violation, $165K for maskless players at a fundraiser, and $50K for an unauthorized locker room visitor.

In moving Trent Brown back to the restriction list, the tackle will be unavailable for the Raiders' game against the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday afternoon.
