The Oakland Raiders have acquired wide receiver Trevor Davis from the Green Bay Packers, according to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport:

Green Bay drafted Davis out of the University of California, Berkeley in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft after Davis proved to be a deep threat and return specialist with the Golden Bears. In three-plus seasons with the Packers, Davis averaged 11.2 yards per punt return, and had multiple 50-yard returns.

Now, Davis will have the chance to prove himself as a playmaker in Oakland. The Raiders have Dwayne Harris as well as J.J. Nelson as return specialists, but Nelson has recently made his way back onto Oakland's Injury Report after not playing against the Kansas City Chiefs and seeing just eight total snaps in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.

Of course, Oakland did not anticipate having a need at wide receiver. The Raiders signed Tyrell Williams and made the big splash for former Steelers star Antonio Brown, only for Brown to lead them on a circus chase that would eventually end with the two sides cutting all ties.

Still, quarterback Derek Carr looked tremendous against the Broncos, and rookie running back Josh Jacobs proved that he was the real deal.

While Jacobs still excelled in Week 2, however, Carr took a big step back against the Chiefs. He completed 60 percent of his passes, but averaged just over five yards per attempt while also throwing two interceptions.

The Raiders still need deep threats, and they are gambling on Davis' ability to compete for playing time at wide receiver.
