The Oakland Raiders have placed starting right tackle Donald Penn on injured reserve due to a groin injury he suffered Sunday in their overtime win against the Cleveland Browns, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Raiders are still hopeful to have him back later in the season. Penn will be eligible to return after eight weeks.

For the time being, the Raiders intend to start rookie Brandon Parker, the team’s third-round pick, in place of Penn at right tackle.

Penn, 35, is a three-time Pro Bowler and has spent the past five years as the Raiders’ starting left tackle. He had previously played in every single game for his first 10 years in the league. However, he missed the last two games of last season due to foot surgery.

After holding out in 2017 for a contract extension, Penn agreed to a pay cut this offseason. He was also moved from left tackle to right tackle in favor of first-round rookie Kolton Miller.

With both Miller and Parker manning the starting tackle spots, the Raiders are now set to start two rookies at the offensive tackle positions for the first time since at least the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, per the Elias Sports Bureau (via Paul Gutierrez of ESPN).

Parker's first assignment as starting right tackle will come on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
