Last weekend Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden sent a clear message to Martavis Bryant, he needed to start playing better in training camp and it appears that Bryant may have gotten the message. Wide receiver coach Edgar Bennett said that Bryant has been putting in the time and it has shown with his play on the field.

“Today was probably his best day,” Bennett said via the San Francisco Chronicle. “Obviously, he got more reps today, because of his overall preparation. He’s putting the time in. He’s putting the work in.”

The Raiders traded for Bryant on draft night from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Gruden made it sound like he was having a really hard time to pick up the playbook. Bennett said that although Bryant is getting better he still needs to make sure that he is consistent as he continues to learn.

“It always starts with preparation,” Bennett said. “He’s putting the work in, he’s going about doing it the right way. We just need to now be consistent and keep stacking successes.”

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr also has taken notice and said that it looks like Bryant has a sense of urgency with trying to learn the playbook.

“You can definitely tell that he has a sense of urgency for him to pick things up and learn them. He wants to do it right, he really does. To see that in him, to see him continue — he always practices hard, that’s never a question.”

Gruden has made the receivers life a little more difficult requiring them to know all the spots including the slot spot and for some, it just takes a bit longer to learn the in's and out's.
