Well, that was fast.

Less than a week since the Oakland Raiders signed veteran running back C.J. Anderson, the same organization decided to release him, as reported by Field Yates of ESPN.

It is, indeed, a short stint in Oakland – and an uneventful one. Anderson was inked to a contract by the Raiders on Dec. 5 as a depth insurance in the team’s backfield, but the 27-year-old product of California did not see a single snap on the field in Oakland colors.

This is also an unfortunate development for Anderson, who recently showed excitement over the prospect of playing for his hometown.

This is the second time that C.J. Anderson has been cut by an NFL team. Prior to his brief dalliance with the Raiders, he spent the first 11 weeks of the season with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers waived Anderson on Nov. 12, spending the next few weeks looking for work before agreeing to ink a deal with Oakland.

The Raiders have been juggling their players in the backfield following the season-ending injury of original starting tailback Marshawn Lynch, but Oakland simply could not find playing time for Anderson, as the Raiders obviously prefer giving more opportunities to the likes of Doug Marin and Jalen Richard.

It was just last year when Anderson collected 1,007 rushing yards, so it’s not a stretch to think that he’ll pop up on another team’s roster once he clears waivers.

In nine games played this season, Anderson has recorded just 104 rushing yards with zero touchdowns on 24 carries.
