The Oakland Raiders are back in home soil following a 27-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in London on Sunday. It’s not the best way to enter a two-week break, but it’s probably worse for linebacker Derrick Johnson, who was officially cut by the Raiders on Tuesday, according to the team’s verified Twitter account.

It seems that this recent roster move from the Raiders was made to open a roster spot for linebacker Jason Cabinda. The former Penn State Nittany Lion went unselected in this year’s NFL Draft but found his way into the Raiders’ practice squad before getting promoted to the 53-man roster.

Derrick Johnson has been around in the NFL for a while. He was a first-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2005 and wore the team’s colors for the first 13 years of his NFL career. Back in May, he agreed to a one-year $1.5 million deal with the Raiders, and though he won’t be able to finish the season with Oakland, the veteran will pocket a base salary amounting to $1.3 million.

A four-time Pro Bowler, Johnson has career numbers of 27.5 sacks, 1,168 total tackles, and 14 interceptions in 188 games played, including 170 starts. In six games for the Raiders, he had 17 tackles and a start.
