Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said something interesting. Yes. It is wild that a gunslinger in the NFL saying something interesting is news, but this one can provide some fighting words. Derek Carr believes that Mexico belongs to the Raiders.

For those unaware, Oakland is set to face the New England Patriots on Sunday in Mexico.

The Raiders beat the Houston Texans there last year, and Carr was impressed with the support they got.

It felt like a big-time home game,” Carr said. “The atmosphere is a playoff atmosphere. It’s loud . . . They want us to win. You can tell by looking in the stands how many Raider fans were there that it’s definitely a home game for us.”

Given how much closer Oakland is to Mexico than New England, this makes a ton of sense from a logistical standpoint. Still, call me weird for thinking that maybe Derek Carr shouldn't be declaring his team the official squad of an entire country based off one previous experience in it — especially when that other team was the ho-hum Houston Texans.

Nevertheless, this should be a pretty fun event for the people who decide to attend the game. While the NFL's attempt of making the sport go international hasn't exactly gone the way it has hoped, at least not yet, sometimes these little baby steps go a long way in creating interest outside the United States.

A good and fun game would also go a long way in helping the National Football League, too.
