Oakland Raiders star pass rusher Khalil Mack has been holding out all offseason with the hope of pressuring the team into giving him his new contract. But much like his fellow defensive star Aaron Donald, that strategy doesn’t appear to be working.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, not only is there no offer currently on the table for Mack, but that his camp and the Raiders haven’t even held any contract talks since February.

Jon Gruden recently refuted a report that he and Mack hadn’t spoken since he took the Raiders job in January. It remains to be seen if he does something similar about this stunning report.

Gruden just took a bit of a shot at Mack and the Raiders defense as a whole for not being so good last season even with the star in the lineup. Unless they take some sort of action with his contract, the Raiders may risk actually being without Mack, who could consider taking his holdout into the regular season.

Gruden did promise in front of Raiders fans that he would find a way to get Mack back. But if this most recent report is true, it doesn’t appear as if he and the Raiders are doing everything they can to appease their superstar defender.

It’s possible that the Raiders haven’t engaged in talks because they’re just waiting on the Rams to set the market with Donald before they offer a deal to Mack. But that strategy has its risks, including the aforementioned regular-season holdout as well as possible bad blood in future negotiations.
