Defensive menace Khalil Mack is yet to return to his team, as he stubbornly continues to stay away from the Oakland Raiders. There seems to be no end in sight with regards to Mack’s holdout. At the same time, it does not look as though the Raiders are entertaining the idea of trading the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, who also doubts whether there’s a team willing to give up the farm for a commodity that’s uncertain to stick to them beyond the 2018 NFL season.

Is there a team out there willing to give up a first-round pick (and maybe another pick), plus more than $20 million per year, with $60 million or so fully guaranteed, to get Mack? Maybe there is. He’s an incredible player, but that’s a hefty price for anyone who doesn’t play quarterback. For now the discussion is moot, as I understand it. Inquiries about Mack’s availability from other NFL outposts have been quickly met with a no.

The silence from both the Raiders’ decision makers (head coach Jon Gruden, general manager Reggie McKenzie, and owner Mark Davis) and Mack’s camp only adds to this convoluted storyline that could become a bigger distraction for the team than what it already is today.

The Green Bay Packers are rumored to have the essential assets and a favorable financial landscape to trade for Khalil Mack, but this can be purely categorized as a speculation until more is heard from the entities directly involved in the saga.

The Raiders are less than three weeks away from opening their season at home on Sep. 10 against the Los Angeles Rams, who coincidentally are also dealing with a talented defensive player on holdout in the form of Aaron Donald.
