Rainbow Six Mobile announced by UbisoftR6 Siege Mobile has just been announced for both iOS and Android devices.

Rainbow Six Mobile will be arriving on mobile platforms soon, Ubisoft announced. The game will be a free-to-play title with in-game currency used for cosmetics and unlocking operators. Once the game launches, players will be able to bring R6 Siege on the go, letting them get in and out of combat anytime they want, wherever they are.

The tense, tactical firefights of R6 Siege have been translated to a more portable platform, which opens up a realm of new possibilities for Ubisoft's development team. On top of that, there are features and mechanics that Ubisoft felt more comfortable including in the mobile version – some of which wouldn't have fit the game's PC and console counterparts. Talking about these changes, Rainbow Six Mobile Creative Director Justin Swan says: “[Rainbow Six Mobile is like] the full-fat version of Rainbow Six Siege that everyone knows and loves – the Operators, their abilities… But then we're trying to expand in a lot of places, which is why I'd say it's not the same thing. We're adding more onboarding into the game, and different in-depth Operator unlock and progression systems.”

He stressed that the game will offer a different kind of experience from the console and PC versions. “There's a reason it's not called Rainbow Six Siege Mobile; it's called Rainbow Six Mobile, because it is the mobile representation of the entire Rainbow Six brand. It's starting off like Rainbow Six Siege, but it'll evolve very much into its own thing.”

Players who are excited to try out their favorite Operators on the mobile version might have to calm down a bit, though. Swan confirms that Operators from R6 Siege will be adopted, not all Operators will be available from the get-go. But long-time fans will be rewarded nonetheless, as Ubisoft Connect will allow players to connect their existing R6 Siege accounts to the mobile version.
