The NFL regular season is winding down, which means the MVP race is heating up. Everyone, besides Los Angeles Rams fans for the most part, have Patrick Mahomes or Drew Brees atop their MVP candidates. Jared Goff is one of a few players who have gotten lost in the crowded MVP race. His stats and the Rams record–due to his play–help make a very compelling case for the prestigious award.

Goff is in his third season in the NFL, making a huge leap from his second season to this year. Even last year, Goff had 3,804 yards, 28 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. Goff was prematurely labeled a bust in the Jeff Fisher era.

Now under Sean McVay, Goff is a more confident and talented quarterback. The critics who stated that Goff was a bust have gone silent. Basically all of the credit has gone to McVay in the media, labeling Goff as a so called “system” quarterback. Everyone who has watched Goff play recently, knows this guy is very special.

Patrick Mahomes, Jared Goff

Through 12 weeks this year, Goff has 3,547 yards (4th in NFL), 26 touchdowns (4th in NFL) and just six interceptions (22nd in NFL). His efficiency and effectiveness in the Rams offense has been a huge part of their success.

He is completing 67.7% of his passes, which is 11th in the NFL. That is a huge improvement off of last season, where he had a 62.1 completion percentage. You can bring up any stat and Goff is near the top in each category. He averages 13.7 yards per completion (tied 2nd in NFL) and a passer rating of 113.5 (4th in NFL). Goff needs to be in the conversation for best-young quarterbacks in the NFL.

Here's Goff showcasing his talent against Mahomes. Goff would come out on top in a historic game, with the Rams winning 54-51. Anyone who watched the game knows, both quarterbacks played well, but Goff outplayed Mahomes.

The Rams offense is loaded with weapons like Todd Gurley, Robert Woods, Brandin Cooks, Josh Reynolds, etc. Every player needs guys around him though to perform at a high-level. Brees and Mahomes have offenses full of talent as well.

This isn't an article knocking either Brees or Mahomes–who are both having incredible seasons– but rather one trying to finally give recognition to Goff. Goff is well deserving of gratitude this year, as he keeps rolling through opposing defenses.

For the people who claim Goff is a “system” quarterback, watch him play. A select group of players are playing with the level of confidence and swagger that Gof is. If Goff is a system quarterback, then so is Mahomes, who has Andy Reid helping him along.

But everyone should know that neither of them are system quarterbacks, just talented guys who are heading for elite status. The future of the NFL is in good hands with guys like Goff and Mahomes running the show for years to come.

Quarterbacks are usually named the MVP, according to how it's been presented throughout NFL history. In the last 25 years, 19 of the 25 MVPs have been quarterbacks. The last non-QB to win the award, was Adrian Peterson in 2012.

Quarterbacks will likely dominate the votes for MVP this season as well. Among the candidates who aren't a quarterback, Gurley would likely be the only non-QB to receive votes as of now.

There's still a few games for Goff to improve his resume. The same goes for Brees and Mahomes. They all share the same record of 10-1 ironically, being the main reason their teams are where they're at.

If there is any type of conversation for MVP in the NFL, Goff's name needs to be mentioned near the top.
