It would be hard to play football at a higher level than Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald has played it the last couple of seasons. Don't tell that to Donald though, as he still thinks he has room to grow.

During a recent radio appearance on ESPN Los Angeles, Donald said he thinks he's only going to get better.

“This should be my best season yet just because I'm here in camp this season, ain't no more coming back a little rusty. We're gonna be a full go, in great condition, and then we got great coaching that's coaching us up and cleaning things up.”

Donald, of course, is referring to the fact that his contract negotiations had kept him away from the team the past couple of offseasons. The Rams finally agreed to terms with Donald on his mega-extension on the eve of last season, so now he's taken care of.

As such, Donald was able to report to OTAs this year, and get in a full offseason with his teammates and coaches. The past couple of years he had been showing up cold, so this is a major development.

The time away didn't seem to hold him back the past couple seasons, as he won the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year Award each of those two years. Donald is the best defensive player in the game, but he thinks the whole defense is going to step up in 2019.

When asked if his defensive teammates would be able to play well enough to have the Rams finish with a top-five defense, Donald said:

“100 percent, I think we got all the players, obviously we got the coaches too put us in great position. The veteran presence that we brought in with Clay and Weddle and those guys, I'm excited to bring them along in this defense. These guys have been doing it for a long time, had a lot of success.”

Donald seems happy about the offseason acquisitions of Clay Matthews and Eric Weddle, and Rams fans have a lot to be excited about defensively.
