Los Angeles Rams All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald was every bit as stunned as the rest of the football world when the Rams acquired Matthew Stafford from the Detroit Lions.

Donald said Wednesday on The Dan Patrick Show he is excited to see what Stafford will bring to the table. Of course, Donald is also sad to see former quarterback Jared Goff departing:

“I’m pretty sure everybody was shocked with it,” Donald said, via Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk. “Stafford’s a great quarterback. I’m excited about having him with the team. A veteran guy that knows the game, been playing the game at a high level for a long time. It was a business decision that the Rams organization chose to make. I will always love Goff, that’s my brother forever. I guess things didn’t work out how they wanted to, so they made a change.”

The Rams also sent multiple first-rounders back to the Lions, making an aggressive play to get the quarterback they feel can help them win a Super Bowl right now.

It was a move very much in line with what L.A. has done in recent offseasons.

The Rams have made aggressive offers to extend wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods. Los Angeles also signed All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey to a lucrative extension this past fall, solidifying a defensive unit still highlighted by Donald's dominance up front.

Time will tell how Stafford fits in Sean McVay's offensive scheme, and whether more downfield throws will result in greater success. But the Rams have made the first big move of the offseason in an effort to get Donald and Co. back to the Super Bowl.
