Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald re-gained the NFL's sack lead on Thursday.

The Rams bulldozed the New England Patriots at the line of scrimmage — on both sides of the ball — throughout L.A.'s 24-3 victory at SoFi Stadium, and Donald was his typical disruptive self.

Donald accrued 1.5 sacks and routinely blew up the pocket around New England QB Cam Newton. His 2020 sack total now sits at 12.5, placing him ahead of Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end, T.J. Watt, who has 12.

Donald may care about the sack title, but he was motivated for other reasons on Thursday. After the game, the two-time Defensive Player of the Year expressed satisfaction about getting some revenge for the Patriots 13-3 victory over the Rams in Super Bowl 53.

“We just played great today … all three phases … defense played lights out … For me, personally, it felt a little good just with payback, but we playing great as a team right now.”

His teammate, CB Jalen Ramsey, interrupted the postgame remarks to interject “Defensive Player of the Year!” on behalf of Donald. As Erin Andrews noted during the interview, Donald tied Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas as the fastest player to rack up 85 career sacks, doing so in just seven seasons.

As a whole, the Rams defensive line dominated the action when the Patriots had possession. The unit sacked Newton six times, hit him 10 times, and generated pressure on 55.2 percent of his drop-backs, per Next Gen Stats. The Pats were limited to 3.8 yards per play.

Donald entered Week 14 as the NFL leader in total pressures before adding seven more against New England.

Donald, 29, is looking to become the third player in league history to win three Defensive Player of the Year awards. The other two are legendary New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor, and T.J.'s brother, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt.

T.J. Watt will have a chance to keep pace with Donald when the Steelers face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football.
