The Los Angeles Rams won the so-called “Battle of L.A.” versus the Los Angeles Chargers in spectacular fashion to move to 3-0 to start the 2018 NFL season. Unfortunately, cornerback Aqib Talib was among those who were unable to finish the game due to injury.

Talib was forced to head back to the locker after suffering a high-ankle sprain. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, he is expected to miss at least a month:

Rams’ CB Aqib Talib suffered a high-ankle sprain Sunday that will sideline him at least one month, and Rams CB Marcus Peters strained his calf and is considered day to day, though with a Thursday night game this week, it will be tough for him to play, per league sources.

Needless to say, this deals quite a blow to the Rams defense. Los Angeles made a bevy of star-studded additions to their roster this offseason. Among them was the arrival of Talib and cornerback Marcus Peters. Both got off to a hot start in Los Angeles before being sidelined early in Week 3.

The injury to Peters just adds further salt to the wound. Their All-Pro pairing is one of the reasons why the Rams defense has enjoyed so much success thus far. However, it appears Los Angeles will have to rely on its depth to help keep them afloat until Talib and Peters return.

Fortunately, the Rams made sure to fortify this group in the offseason. Stepping up in their place will likely be cornerback Sam Shields and Nickell Robey-Coleman. Both players boast plenty of experience and have already played an integral part on defense thus far.
