Sean McVay is getting creative with his play-calling. Late in the third quarter of the NFC Divisional Round showdown between the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, McVay capped off an impressive touchdown drive with some nifty trickery involving Cam Akers.

Facing 1st and goal from the 8-yard line with 1:47 remaining in the quarter, McVay — for the second time in the red zone on the drive — called a Wildcat direct snap to Rams running back Cam Akers.

With Rams quarterback Jared Goff lined up on the outside, Akers headed to his right side then up the middle, barreling over linebacker Krys Barnes and into the end zone.

McVay dipped into his bag of tricks for the ensuing two-point conversion, too. The Rams dialed up a quick screen pass to wide receiver Van Jefferson, who promptly lateraled the ball to Akers. The timing was spot-on and the play was executed to perfection, as Akers hit the end-zone uncontested.

The two-pointer for the Rams closed the Packers' lead to 25-18 heading into the fourth quarter.

At the time of writing, Akers has 17 carries for 86 yards and a score for the Rams. Goff — playing with a surgically-repaired thumb on his throwing hand — has completed 19 of 22 passes for 169 yards and a TD.

Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers has been locked in, too. The presumptive MVP has completed 20 of 33 passes for 222 yards and one TD against the Rams.

Like the Rams with Akers, the Packers have relied on their productive ground game in the lightly snowy affair at Lambeau. With about nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter, RB Aaron Jones has racked up 98 yards on 13 carries.
