Los Angeles Rams rookie running back Cam Akers is part of a group that has a tall task ahead of them in 2020: replacing three-time Pro Bowler Todd Gurley.

It won't be Akers doing the job alone — Darrell Henderson Jr. and Malcolm Brown will also likely see significant carries — but in the virtual offseason training program, Akers has been impressing the Rams.

Lauded for his “engagement, assertiveness, and asking all the right questions,” Akers appears to have navigated the highly unique offseason with the Rams to tap into every bit of information that he needs. He may not have been able to meet face-to-face with the coaching staff, but that hasn't appeared to hamper him whatsoever.

Chosen in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Rams out of Florida State, Akers enters the professional ranks after having been named a Second-team All-ACC performer as a junior last season, having amassed 1,144 yards on the ground to go along with 14 rushing touchdowns.

Akers was a stalwart of the Florida State backfield during his three years, collecting 34 touchdowns (27 rushing, seven receiving) as he averaged better than five yards of gain every time that he touched the ball.

The Rams will look noticeably different to begin the 2020 year with many familiar faces gone from those of the past few seasons. The absence of Gurley, who has since signed with the Falcons, could be the most glaring, but Los Angeles hopes that Akers is able to quickly assert himself, much in the same way that Gurley did when entering the league out of Georgia.
