Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey is well looking ahead to facing the Mike Evans-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver unit in the upcoming NFC divisional round.

When the Rams and Buccaneers faced off in the regular season, Evans shined in the contest, as he hauled in eight receptions for 106 receiving yards. However, Ramsey was not primarily matched up against the longtime Tampa Bay wide receiver, as he instead covered wideout Chris Godwin on 76.1 percent of snaps. Overall, Ramsey allowed eight receptions for 59 receiving yards while in coverage in the contest.

Ramsey’s versatility as a cornerback has not only given him the opportunity to line up against the opponent’s top wideout option but also with tight ends as well. As Ramsey is set to meet the likes of Evans and tight end Rob Gronkowski this week, he well recognizes the challenge that will come in covering two unique offensive talents.

“It’s just covering different body types,” Ramsey said during a press conference ahead of the game. “It’s a little bit different of a feel, I guess you would say, that’s probably it.

“Film study has to be elite this week to make sure that I know exactly kind of what route concepts I’ll get with other guys and how I should play it, and how I should be on the same page with my safeties and the rest of the secondary. You know how I feel about challenges: I welcome them, and I’m excited for that challenge however many times that may or may not happen.”

As expected, Ramsey emerged as the workhorse defensive back in the Rams secondary over the regular season, as he was targeted a team-high 98 times. He may see a bulk of targets against him this week, whether it will be when covering Evans out wide or Gronkowski in possible slant routes.

The Rams are aiming for a second trip to the NFC Championship game in the Sean McVay era.
