The Los Angeles Rams are making another splash, signing outside linebacker Clay Matthews. But rather than one of the usual suspects from NFL Network or ESPN, Matthews broke the news of the signing himself.

Matthews tweeted out a photoshop of him in a Rams uniform just moments before Ian Rapoport of NFL Network broke the news.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, it's a two-year deal worth up to $16.75 million for Matthews. Garafolo also notes that Matthews had larger offers on the table, but turned them down to play with the Rams. Matthews' family is apparently based in Los Angeles, which makes sense since he played his college ball at nearby USC. He'll also get the chance to chase a ring with the Rams.

It's continuing the recent trend of players accepting less money to play with the Rams. Last year, Ndamukong Suh turned down more lucrative offers to a sign a one-year pact with the Rams. At the beginning of free agency this year, the Rams signed Eric Weddle to a deal that almost certainly would've been beaten on the open market.

A first-round pick of the Packers in 2009, Matthews spent the first ten seasons of his career in Green Bay. He became an immediate star and made six Pro Bowls. But his production dipped a bit the past few seasons, and it was clear the two sides were heading for a split this offseason.

The Rams were in desperate need of outside pass-rushing help at times last season, so this is a nice fit. They also re-signed Dante Fowler Jr., who they traded for at the deadline last year, so their outside rush should be a lot better next season.
