Eric Weddle surely needs less time to acclimate to the Los Angeles Rams than the vast majority of players who switched teams over the offseason. Just because the veteran safety's smarts and experience are poised to make his transition to playing for the Rams relatively easy, though, doesn't mean he's entirely comfortable heading into Week 1 after sitting out the preseason's entirety.

Responding to a question about the readiness of Los Angeles' starters following an exhibition slate in which none of them played, Weddle admitted he might need a quarter or two to shake off some rust against the Carolina

“I’m sure the first couple of quarters, or maybe even a game, my timing will be a little off, but it will come back fairly quickly, so just timing for tackling and stuff,” he said, per ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.

Just because the 34-year-old Weddle, Aaron Donald, Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, and other starters never took the field in an official preseason game, though, hardly means they never played close to full speed leading up to the regular season. Los Angeles had a pair of joint practices with the Oakland Raiders during which the teams scrimmaged, and went toe-to-toe against one another in practice on multiple occasions, too.

Weddle, entering his 13th season, signed a two-year, $10.5 million deal with the Rams in free agency. He made his third consecutive Pro Bowl, and sixth selection overall, last season with the Baltimore Ravens, finishing with 68 tackles, four tackles for loss, and four passes defensed.
