The Los Angeles Rams signed Eric Weddle this offseason, and as it turns out if they wouldn't have he would have retired. Early in the offseason, the Baltimore Ravens released Weddle which really caught him off guard and made him really consider his future.

Weddle decided he would take a few visits and set up the Rams first. Weddle was raised in Rancho Cucamonga which is just southwest of Los Angeles and his dad grew up a Rams fan. In an interview with Dan Pompei of the Athletic Weddle talked about how the night before the visit he made up his mind that it was either going to be the Rams, or he was going to hang them up for good.

The night before Weddle’s visit, he was restless, still somewhat conflicted. Instead of sleeping, he deliberated. In the morning, he told Chanel (his wife) if he didn’t reach an agreement with the Rams, he would retire. The only other person he told was his agent David Canter.

“It was L.A. or nothing,” he says.

The visit was spread over two days, and the thing that Weddle was most impressed with was just how well he connected with coach Sean McVay.

“I felt like I was talking to myself,” Weddle says. “We think so much alike. It’s wild. His humility is what drew me most to him, even with all the success he’s had, he knows nobody has all the answers.”

There was mutual interest from both sides and Weddle signed a two-year deal to play in Los Angeles. The hope is that he can be one of the keys to getting back to the Super Bowl and for Weddle, he gets to play close to where it all started
