The Los Angeles Rams and newly-acquired cornerback Jalen Ramsey were caught in a long stalemate over contract negotiations during the offseason. The two sides finally reached an agreement – ultimately making Ramsey the highest-paid defensive back in league history.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport disclosed the details of the newly-signed contract on Twitter:

The extension was agreed upon a day after the Arizona Cardinals made DeAndre Hopkins the highest-paid non-quarterback ever with a two-year extension worth $54.5 million. After Ramsey, expect more stars in other positions to land lucrative paychecks as well.

The cornerback made his way to Los Angeles after a tumultuous four-year stay with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The soured relationship between him and Jacksonville management eventually resulted in a trade made in October of 2019. Ramsey was traded to the Rams in exchange for a 2020 first-round pick, a 2021 first-round pick, and a 2021 fourth-round pick.

The former Florida State Seminole had leverage over contract negotiations as he was able to stay healthy back in his days with the Jaguars. He managed to play all 16 games in each of his first three seasons in the league. Along with his durability, Ramsey was able to stand out from his peers and grabbed a PFWA All-Rookie Team selection, a first-team All-Pro inclusion, and three Pro Bowl appearances in a span of four years.

The 25-year old player now finds himself in a better situation with a team that has developed a winning culture in recent seasons. His extended stay in Los Angeles would hopefully bring the team to greater heights moving forward.
