The Los Angeles Rams made quite a splash with the acquisition of cornerback Jalen Ramsey at the trade deadline. Unfortunately, it camerawomen seven weeks too late.

Ramsey had a fallout with the Jacksonville Jaguars that led to him sitting out in the weeks leading up to the trade. According to Sarina Morales of the team's official website, he wishes he got to play the entire 2019 NFL season for the Rams:

“It was cool. I wish I could have been here the whole time. Just because I think we had a special defense. I mean we were good. We had a couple of hiccups here and there. A couple of games before I got here. They were 3-3, so I heard those three games were kind of the same thing … a couple of hiccups. I feel like maybe that’s what defined the season a little bit, some good games, glimpses of a really good team, a championship-caliber team,” Ramsey said. “Again, at times just tripping pickups. That’s how you end up with a 9-7 record I guess. But for me, I mean it’s still a blessing to be honest. It’s only my second winning season in the NFL. I had [another] really good year, the one year with the Jaguars. Every year other than that has been a very bad year. A losing season, four wins, three wins, stuff like that.”

Ramsey's comments are certainly understandable considering a midseason trade is hardly ever ideal for most players. While he may have established himself as one of the NFL's shutdown cornerbacks, he never became accustomed to winning during his time with the Jaguars. It is safe to say that his relationship with Jacksonville's coaching staff and the front office only added to his desire to leave.

Having Ramsey around for the whole year could very well have changed the fortunes for the Rams. Regardless, they still managed to shore up even more star power on the defensive side of the ball for the long haul. Although they may have ultimately fallen short of the playoffs, this team still has plenty of quality pieces to help spark a potential resurgence in the 2020 NFL season.

The Rams star will now be headlining a defense that has ushered in some significant changes with the arrival of defensive coordinator Brandon Staley. The onus will fall on Staley to ensure that his key players feel comfortable in the new system.
