Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay is an innovator in more ways than one. Besides his offensive genius, he has set the precedent of not playing any starters during the preseason. This trend has caught on throughout the league, most notably with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears.

While some would say it leaves players rusty, Rams quarterback Jared Goff disagrees. Goff spoke on this philosophy in correspondence with ClutchPoints.

“I don’t think it will be any different than last year. I think it’s just the same. I think obviously there’s no substitute for it, but with the way that we approach things in the preseason, that’s the way we do it and I think it will be just fine. I’m not worried about it. I’m excited to get hit, I guess. Kind of get that first one out of the way, but no, I’ll be fine.” Goff said.

The former California Bear is probably right. The Rams did this last year and suffered about a half of out-of-practice football in their season opener against the Oakland Raiders. The Rams came out of halftime and proceeded to destroy the Raiders, so it doesn't seem like it had too much of an effect.

Coming off of a Super Bowl loss, expectations are high again for Los Angeles. The roster regressed a little bit over the offseason but is still primed to contend in the NFC. The Rams' mettle will be tested early in the season, as they face the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.
