Through the first three weeks of the preseason, Los Angeles Rams second-year quarterback Jared Goff has shown some encouraging signs through his play on the field.

In light of that, Gary Klein of the LA Times is reporting that head coach Sean McVay has decided that Goff will not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers.

This shouldn't be a cause for concern, as McVay also went on to state that several other starters are expected to sit the final preseason game. In fact, the Rams are going this route due to precautionary reasons with the season opener now less than two weeks away.

Goff has shown some progression in his development this preseason but did experience a minor setback on Saturday against the Los Angeles Chargers ,where he completed five of eight passes for 56 yards with an interception and a lost fumble.

The 22-year-old fumbled on the opening drive, and it was returned for a 76-yard touchdown. He followed that up on the next series with an interception on an errant throw made to wide receiver Sammy Watkins that came as a result of miscommunication. It was a troubling performance, but Goff has shown much more reason for optimism with the entirety of his play this preseason.

The Rams are hoping that the slew of moves that they made in the offseason will provide Goff more help and possibly lead to a big year and a major step forward for the franchise.
