What a difference two years can make – just ask Jared Goff. The Los Angeles Rams' star quarterback was something close to a laughingstock after his rookie season, when the first overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft completed just 54.6 percent of his passes and threw more touchdowns than interceptions. Now, after improving on a breakout sophomore campaign by leading Los Angeles to its first Super Bowl appearance since 2001, Goff has emerged as one of the NFL's brightest young stars.

Winning over the son of Rams left tackle, Andrew Whitworth, though, apparently takes more than 32 touchdown passes, 4,688 throwing yards, and 101.1 quarterback rating. At Super Bowl opening night, Goff promised Whitworth's son, Michael, on the press conference podium that he would buy him a shark if the Rams beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII.

“I know your parents will be thrilled,” says Goff, monotone and stone-faced.

Luckily for Goff, the elder Whitworth probably cares more about helping the Rams to their second Super Bowl win in franchise history than keeping his son from possessing a wild marine animal. On the other hand, it bears wondering why the young Whitworth hasn't already domesticated a shark. His father signed a three-year, $33.7 million contract with Los Angeles before last season, which surely gives him the financial means to not just acquire a shark, but accommodate it with the necessary home environment.

Perhaps Whitworth has been waiting for just the right opportunity to grant his son's wish? Or more likely, an industrious young child saw the opportunity to take advantage of Goff's growing stardom by making him deliver this ridiculous promise for the whole world to see. We'll find out for sure after Super Bowl LIII.
