The Rams have built a Super Bowl-ready roster around a young, talented quarterback on a rookie deal. So, it comes as no surprise the team is apparently in no rush to start contract negotiations with that player, Jared Goff. As it turns out, though, Goff is in no rush to start those discussions, either.

According to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, the Rams quarterback said his future contract is not anything he’s thinking about at the moment.

Not on my mind at all,” Goff said. “I know the deal and understand that I hired an agent for that reason, and things always work out. You continue to play well, it will work itself out.”

Goff is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal, and the Rams will almost certainly pick up his fifth-year option, kicking the can on the negotiations down the road another year, into 2020. Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, NFL teams have the option of adding a fifth year to first-round rookie contracts after a player’s third season. Players selected with the top 10 picks can earn a fifth-year salary that is the average of the 10 highest salaries at their position.

Goff is due to earn a base salary of $4.3 million this season and carries a salary cap number of $8.9 million, according to overthecap.com.

Goff and Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who Philadelphia has already started contract talks with, were the first and second overall picks, respectively, and are represented by the same firm. Both are also expected to be impacted by the recent extension the Seahawks gave quarterback Russell Wilson. His four-year, $140 million extension included $107 million in guarantees.
