The Los Angeles Rams exercised the fifth-year option on Jared Goff's rookie contract a few months ago, ensuring he'd remain with the team through the 2020 season. Just because they have two full seasons to go before Goff could become a free agent, though, hardly means the Rams are content even letting him ponder the possibility of playing elsewhere.

Los Angeles general manager Les Snead made it clear signing his team's star signal-caller to a contract extension is one of management's top priorities, insisting “it's not a matter of it, but when” Goff will be re-upped, according to Omar Ruiz of NFL Network.

Goff continued establishing himself as one of the league’s premier young quarterbacks last season, throwing for 4,688 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while completing 64.9 percent of his passes, all career-highs. The Rams finished second to reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, who boasted one of the most prolific offenses in league history, in both points and yards per game.

Unfortunately, both Goff and his team were flustered by the New England Patriots’ defense with the Vince Lombardi Trophy on the line. He completed just half of his 38 throws en route to 229 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception in Super Bowl LIII, and Los Angeles, which averaged 421.1 yards of total offense during the regular season, managed just 260 yards en route to a 13-3 loss.

Goff, still just 24, is already one of the most valuable players in football. As he gets older and gains more experience, expect him to continue leading the Rams to championship contention.
