Los Angeles Rams strong safety John Johnson has a new teammate on the back end of the defense with Eric Weddle joining the club this offseason, and so far he has nothing but positives to say about him.

Speaking on NFL Network, Johnson said that he has never seen a player quite like Weddle and went as far as calling him “a genius” on the field:

“He’s just a genius. I haven’t seen anybody like him,” Johnson said on NFL Network on Monday. “I haven’t been in the league long but I know he’s a special one and I’m excited to see what we can do. Not just how it can make me better but I’m excited to see what he and I can do for this whole defense.”

Weddle has lost a bit of a step as he has gotten older, but he is still a strong player and will no doubt make the Rams' secondary better.

Weddle has also given a rave review about Johnson's play this offseason and said that he is going to do everything in his power to push him to the next level in his game:

“I’m here to push him to that next level. He’s got a chance to be an exceptional safety for a long time and I can see it in him,” Weddle said in May. “He’s got to get there, so I’ll push him every day that’s for sure.”

Johnson is saying all the right things about Weddle, and he would be wise to take every tip and word of wisdom he can get from the veteran to improve his game.
