The Los Angeles Rams planned on relocating to their new stadium in 2020, but that could be subject to change due to the coronavirus. Ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft, Kevin Demoff admits that SoFi Stadium could be delayed:
“Our stadium, and I believe the Raiders’ stadium as well, will both be amazing when they are finished and when they will begin play, which will certainly happen in the near future, whether that’s in July, August, September, in 2021,” Demoff said via the RamsWire. “I don’t think you can look at either of these stadiums as short-term projects to finish but rather long-term beacons for the franchises and for the NFL.”
For the past few years, the Rams have ramped up construction at SoFi Stadium in hopes it could be completed later this year. As a matter of fact, Taylor Swift has a concert scheduled to take place at the new stadium in late July.
However, with the coronavirus outbreak, the Rams could have to prolong the debut of the stadium. In the event that construction is ceased to address the safety of the workers, then Los Angeles could need to find a contingency plan in 2020.
Since moving back to Los Angeles in 2016, the Rams have played at the Coliseum. Maybe there's a chance that the Rams could negotiate a deal to play one more season there until their stadium is finalized?
Demoff, who is the Chief Operating Officer for the Rams, has had his hands full this offseason, with the Rams unveiling their new logo that wasn't received well by fans. Now, Demoff and the Rams could be facing an issue with the opening of SoFi Stadium later this year.
