The Los Angeles Rams were dubbed by many as the biggest winners of the offseason thanks to their bevy of star-studded acquisitions. It appears the Rams were not done trying to make moves once they heard the Oakland Raiders were shopping defensive end Khalil Mack.

The prospect of Los Angeles trading for Mack seems ludicrous given all the assets they invested in this offseason. However, according to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff says the Rams made a serious attempt to trade for Mack:

“We offered a pretty aggressive package and they came back and said, ‘We just think you’re going to pick too low,’ ” Demoff said about the Rams’ potential pick in the 2019 draft.

Needless to say, the idea of Mack lining up alongside the likes of defensive tackles Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh is almost too much to fathom. The Rams have already brought in some elite talent to their defense with the arrival of cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters. Adding Mack to that mix would have just been complete overkill at this point.

Of course, it was too good to be true for Los Angeles. Their recent success was actually the reason why a deal was not feasible in the first place. Their best asset was a first-round pick which likely will not be until late given the team's expectations this season. Regardless, the Chicago ultimately made Oakland an offer they could not refuse before making Mack the richest defensive player in NFL history.

Although Los Angeles was unable to reach a deal, it is encouraging to see that the front office is constantly looking to make upgrades to this already-loaded squad. This is further proof that it is Super Bowl or bust from here on out for the Rams.
