The Houston Texans were hoping to get Tyrod Taylor back in Week 8 for their matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Instead, they'll roll out the red carpet for rookie Davis Mills again, according to NFL.com.

Houston Texans coach David Culley said rookie quarterback Davis Mills will start Sunday versus the Rams. Culley noted that Tyrod Taylor (hamstring), who returned to practice this week after being sidelined since Week 2, is not ready.

As noted, Taylor had returned to practice this week under the premise that he would get enough reps in to show he was ready to come back against the Rams.

Mills has struggled but in his defense, there isn't a heck of a lot to work with on the Texans' roster. The team has continued to fizzle out one week after another and the Deshaun Watson saga has kept bringing a dark cloud over the franchise for the time being.

Taylor was sensational for the Texans in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns in Houston's lone win of the season. In Week 2, he started 10-11 against the Cleveland Browns with two total touchdowns (one rushing) before he exited with the hamstring injury. He hasn't played since and the production at quarterback has plummeted.

The odds would've been stacked against Houston facing the Rams regardless but Taylor showed plenty of promise and most importantly, brought stability to the position as a player who has started many games in the past.

Houston will rely on their rookie to keep it close with the Rams.
