Los Angeles Rams safety Lamarcus Joyner is set to sign his franchise tag and report to the team’s offseason conditioning program, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

#Rams S Lamarcus Joyner is signing his $11.287M franchise tag today before taking part in the beginning of the team’s offseason condition, per @SunnyTheAgent. A big plus that he’ll be in the mix all offseason.

Joyner, 27, was a former 2nd-round pick by the Rams in 2014 out of Florida State. After playing a bit-part role on the team in his first few years as a cornerback, he moved to safety last year and was an instant success. He was rated as this year’s top free-agent safety by Pro Football Focus.

Joyner played and started in 12 games for the Rams last season, which was by far his best since coming into the league. He had his first three interceptions of his career and returned one for a touchdown. He also recorded 49 total tackles, forced one fumbled, and had nine passes defended.

Joyner will now get the chance to meet up with the two new members of the team's suddenly star-studded Rams secondary in cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, who were acquired this offseason. Joyner's versatility and ability to play in the slot will be another weapon defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will look to utilize.

The Rams still have until July 16 to come to an agreement on a long-term deal to keep Joyner in Los Angeles. But if not, they could still tag him again next offseason, but it will cost $13.544 million.
