In the weeks leading to the start of the free agency period, the Los Angeles Rams have been the most active team in the league in the trade market involving several key players. All of these moves have come on the defensive side of the ball that has changed much of the outlook for 2018.

The Rams have picked it up over the last several days that saw them move both linebacker Alec Olgetree and defensive end/outside linebacker Robert Quinn. According to James Palmer of The NFL Network, the Rams have made yet another major transaction with the agreed acquisition of All-Pro cornerback Aqib Talib from the Denver Broncos on Thursday afternoon.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Los Angeles sent a 2018 fifth-round pick to the Broncos in the deal.

The Rams are expected to pick up the remainder of his current deal, as he is in the fifth year of his six-year, $57 million contract. He will make $11 million in 2018 and $8 million in 2019.

This deal comes shortly after reports surfaced on Thursday afternoon that Talib wanted to be released instead of being traded, with his only two desired landing spots being the Rams and the New England Patriots.

Throughout Talib’s first 10 years in the league, he has established himself as one of the premier players at his position, backed by five Pro Bowl selections, a First-Team All-Pro nod, and a Second-Team All-Pro selection. This is a significant upgrade to LA's secondary as one of the starting cornerbacks alongside fellow offseason addition Marcus Peters.

It also signals that Trumaine Johnson's tenure in Los Angeles has come to an end. Johnson will likely have many suitors lining up for his services, such as the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.

Following the news of the trade, the Rams and several of their players took to social media to express their reactions to the blockbuster move.

This deal, along with the various other trades, can be officially finalized on March 12th.
