It runs in the family: Wes Phillips, the son of coach Wade Phillips, has been added to the Los Angeles Rams' team coaching lineup.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Phillips is being hired by the team as the new tight end coach. The outlet is also reporting that the elder Phillips “stumped” for his son to get the position.

But this should come as no surprise to those who have been following the team for a while.

Last month, the elder Phillips joked that since his son was an offensive coach who knew Sean McVay, he would be an excellent head coaching option.

And it seems as though they took the joke seriously, and started considering the younger Phillips as a serious contender for the open position.

Prior to coming on board with the Rams, Phillips was coaching with the Washington Redskins, where he stayed until his contract expired. NBC Sports has more information:

“He joined the team in 2014, when McVay was still the offensive coordinator there. He has also worked for Dallas. Shane Waldron, the Rams passing game coordinator, had coached tight ends the last two years for the Rams. He could be looking at increased responsibilities with Zac Taylor off to coach the Bengals.”

It should be interesting to see if Phillips can help the team go to the Super Bowl yet again, just as they were able to do in this previous season for the first time in nearly 20 years.
