The Los Angeles Rams swung yet another blockbuster move in an offseason full of them as they traded with the New England Patriots for wide receiver Brandin Cooks. That move ostensibly took them out of the running for an even bigger blockbuster trade involving Odell Beckham Jr.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Rams were indeed interested in a deal for OBJ. However, there were never serious negotiations with the Giants since they realized that the price they’d have to pay in order to get the mercurial wide receiver was a bit too much.

It has been reported that the Giants are asking for at least two first-round picks for Beckham, which would likely give any team pause. But apart from the king's ransom worth of draft assets they’d have to give up just to get him, the Rams also would’ve had to offer him a massive contract in order to keep him long-term.

Given that they also have to pay the likes of Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley, and others in the coming years, acquiring Beckham was going to be even more costly.

But even though they didn’t get Beckham, the Rams should be pleased with landing Cooks. Even though he isn’t at Beckham’s level as a receiver, the Rams could certainly use Cooks’ ability to stretch the field. Moreover, he only cost a single first-rounder as opposed to multiple firsts and will likely be much cheaper to re-sign.

All in all, the Rams should feel like they made the right decision targeting Cooks instead of paying over the odds for a superstar like Beckham.
